Crypton© Vinyl and Woven Fabrics

Crypton© Fabrics – A premium, stain resistance fabric that’s both durable and comfortable

Crypton fabrics offer antimicrobial protection, a moisture barrier and enhanced physical product performance.  Crypton© fabrics provide excellent cleanability and durability with a soft, pliable finish that is comfortable and inviting.

Features:

  • Stain resistance and strong
  • More pliable than vinyl
  • Not ideal for clients with frequent incontinence
  • Often recommended by designers for wide range of fabric colors and patterns available

How it’s made

First Crypton© fabrics are immersed in a patented formula, which encapsulates each fiber, then the application of impenetrable back coat finishes the process. Fabrics must go through a trial phase and meet stringent test criteria before final approval for a Crypton finish. Crypton finished fabrics offer enhanced physical properties that perform well  against abrasion, tearing strength, breaking strength and seam slippage.

Crypton fabrics pass the standard upholstery flammability codes such as Cal 117, UFAC, BIFMA and NFPA 260. To meet additional fire codes such as Cal 133, IMO RES 16-52A, Boston and New York Fire Codes, additional fire protection treatment is required.

How to Clean Crypton©

Clean Crypton fabrics with Water, Solvent, Bleach or a special Crypton cleaner. For specific information about cleaning, please refer to the manufacturer website or on the back of the fabric card. • Highly durable
  • Easy to clean and disinfect, often are bleach cleanable
  • Available in faux leather texture
  • Less pliant than woven and Crypton© fabrics

Making Vinyl

Vinyl upholstery combines two separate synthetic materials. The fibers of the upholstery are constructed from strong polyester fibers. First, the fibers are coated with vinyl. The coating is polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and plasticizers (phthalic acid). Second, this vinyl melts onto the surface of the fibers. Finally the melted vinyl seals the fibers closed making a virtually waterproof surface that is still flexible and tough.

Non PVC vinyl fabrics are also available. They are gaining popularity in the furniture market.

How to Clean Vinyl

Vinyl upholstery is easy to clean and maintain. This makes it the answer for situations where cleanliness is a top priority. Most vinyls can be cleaned with a water/solvent mixture or are bleach cleanable. Vinyl may crack over time, and the manufacturer recommends using a clean water rinse after cleaning to ensure no cleaning residue is left.
